I’m not sure if I mentioned the iOS app HealthFit before, but it is the one app I use the most as a runner and for my fitness.

The Apple Watch tracks a lot of metrics, but Apple seems to have left the turning of that data into meaningful information up to third party apps that interface with Apple Health.

HealthFit does a great job at making the Apple Health fitness data understandable and meaningful.

The app is a one time purchase with no subscription. You can become a supporter through a subscription and help out the really responsive dev (I am a supporter since I have been using the app for so many years).

I’m thinking about taking a four day - wheels up 🛫 to wheels down 🛬 - trip from the North East United States to Berlin, Germany with the sole intention of securing a guaranteed entry to the 2025 Berlin Marathon.

This is probably the best dumb idea I have had in a while.

Morning long run up PCT going north out of town up Mt McDill. Low ceiling made for nice quiet and solitude. Fog lifted on the way down. Saw one thru hiker (from Czech).

I haven’t been running consistently this year, mainly because of all the traveling I did in the first three months.

I definitely haven’t been running the distances I had before, so it was nice to run a 5K today.

Cheers to the dedicated long distance runners who I saw running in the pouring rain here in . I used to be that crazy when I was in my 40s, too.

Drove down to Skåne for a longer long run around Österlen yesterday - 60km. Tested another “tapering” setup as well (started Mon with 12, then 12, 10, 7 and 7 - basically “only” 50km (coming from 130km the week before). Worked quite good. Nice dress rehearsal for Rennsteiglauf. The long run was beautiful. Who says Skåne is flat 🙈. Good energy and was able to stay in Z2 for the entire time (apart for 10minutes that I blame the sensor for 😆) at a comfortable happy flow pace. Planning to do basically the same for Rennsteig to be able to experience and enjoy the Volksfest there.

Some more Skåne scenes from my long run. The last two somehow reminded me of Barkley 🙃

Fun running mellow road miles while visiting my sister. Treating the time here like a taper. Her neighborhood block measures a quarter mile so I loop it in the morning changing direction every mile. Zero elevation gain for the week also lowers overall intensity.

Been out on a walk. Today we walked 6.5km in a really relaxed stroll. I don't normally post "training", and I barely see todays activity as training, however, I have walked the same stretch in a much more "power-walk-y" way, where I will feel it in my legs the days after, beating todays tempo/km with minutes.

Here comes the surprising (to me) part: the difference in burnt calories between a really "on" power-walk and todays calm stroll is...30. On average (I compared multiple walks). The difference between really "come on, let's do it!" and just...strolling: 30 calories. Pretty much nothing.

I mean, the power-walk-y way of doing it has some other attributes, like raised pulse etc (which is a good thing for me) but if just looking at calories there seems to be no benefit at all to get really tired from it.

I'm doing walks for now in a kind of pre-season warm up for running later (when they have cleared all the routes of mountains of slipper sand, a left-over from the winter snow), so I haven't really looked at walks like that previously.
