I'm not currently blocking #threads, but happily I'm not a #mastodon admin so I'm not in the position of having to think about it either.

I really don't know how I'd decide if I had to make a decision.

I'd like to block threads, except that President Biden made an account there. It's interesting to see what he has to say, even if he comes off as out of touch.

@BeAware My quasi single user instance doesn't outright block but has threads on limit. It doesn't show up on the timelines at all, but if you want to, you can go and subscribe to someone over there, and only you will see it. I have yet to have someone on threads I'd like to follow.

Given how I don't have a VAST AMOUNT of users to protect, and don't generally intend to boost threads, that seemed like a happy middle ground.

@BeAware Hope my boosting this helped! .....But I would note not statistically a random sample of fediverse users... I think to really do this one would literally need to do a true intentionally randomized sample across the whole fedi, and do all the things real world pollsters do to avoid sampling bias...

Only instance admins can block another instance (defederation)

Muting stops threads.net posts appearing in your federated (world) timeline, but you can still see them if you look& afaik your public posts will appear in the threads.net world tl

So if your instance admin hasn't defederated threads.net their users can see your posts

@nixCraft I sort-of-agree. To use Linux the way typical Windows users user Windows... no, you don't really need special skills. If you want to see the blonde, brunette, and red head... yeah... you'll need to develop some skills... but the same goes for Windows or Mac. The benefit of Linux is that the access to skills is open and free.

@nixCraft no. There's plenty of Linux distributions that are far easier to use than windows. My mom made the switch at 75 and uses her Linux laptop daily. Never have to help her do anything, including updating the whole system.

There're two million grandparents using linux their kids set up, but never go to any linux sites to be counted, just doing banking email and social. And they never notice, its doesnt crash three times a week, isnt filled with viruses, so kids and grandkids dont have to drive over to Nana's house to reboot and remove malware.
