The last time Macklemore was really culturally relevant it was for songs like 2013’s “Thrift Shop.” Times have certainly changed. Last week, the rapper dropped “Hind’s Hall,” a blistering protest anthem that takes aim at Israel’s assault on Gaza and comes as student protests have spread around the world. Will “Hind’s Hall” usher in a new era of musical political activism? Vox has more, including why Macklemore’s political shift isn’t as surprising as you might think. flip.it/nwByYp

nope. I did find that setting the Tidal quality to High instead of Lossless will stream in MP4 and that might be the fix.

The Assistant devs don't have Sonos speakers. I'm sure this bug could be fixed, but they aren't interested in spending time on it. Which is fine, I'm sure they have a lot of other things to work on.

Of all the music that I've listened to in life, INXS remains the band that has been with me the longest.

It all started with their album "Kick" when I was in middle school. It was the music that I associate with my high school years and beyond.

My favorite song continues to be "New Sensation". But they have so many awesome tracks through all their albums.

One lyric that I latched onto and continue to love and live by is from their track "The Stairs"...

May 7 was the bicentennial of 's Ninth Symphony, one of the greatest pieces of classical music of all time.

I really enjoyed this presentation of the entire symphony on Arte, with each movement performed by a different orchestra in a different country (Leipzig, Paris, Milan, Vienna), and a tiny bit of commentary on each movement in between.

Nirvana - “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
DGC Records, 1991
US Promo Version on yellow vinyl

I don’t remember if I got this before or after “Nevermind”. I know I got it because I love colored vinyl though.

It’s the radio edit version of their smash hit, along the non-LP track "Even In His Youth", and the original version of "Aneurysm" (slower pace vs the “Incesticide” version)

Front album cover. Nirvana spelled out over blue watery background. Blurred image of the three band members in the center. "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Yellow vinyl disc with black label and white and yellow textBack album cover. Half water reflection with song titles, lower half all black with label info.

Yellow vinyl disc b-side has the classic Nirvana happy face with x's for eyes

Spotify’s long-rumored high-res music tier looks like it might be finally ready for launch, based on some pretty convincing leaked screengrabs.

The music streaming service has fallen behind a number of its big rivals in not offering lossless music, but so-called “Enhanced Listening” will look to change that, offering up to 24-bit/44.1kHz playback via Spotify Connect on compatible devices.

@9to5google has more on the expected feature and how it compares to the competition, but we want to hear what you think — is high-res sound quality important to you in a streaming service? Has Spotify done enough?

I was looking at Billboard top 100 hits for last year as I was trying to find a artist and I came across something...

There was a period where Taylor Swift had numerous singles in the top 100, something like over 20 singles at one time during a particular week.

Going back further in the year, I noticed it happened with other artists.

As far as I can tell, people are buying individual singles-- in such a quantity that they're placing in the top 100, despite not being a current hit.

What a weird phenomenon

Music to Art.

A vivid explosion of color and emotion, capturing a face in the throes of a creative burst. It's as if the very essence of the subject's soul is being splattered across the canvas, each hue and drip symbolizing thoughts, feelings, and experiences that refuse to be contained. The abstract nature of the painting allows for a chaotic yet intimate peek into the psyche, with splashes of red suggesting passion or pain, and the cooler tones hinting at depth and introspection. This piece could be interpreted as a metaphor for the human condition, where inner turmoil and beauty coexist in a constant state of flux, never fully resolved but always deeply felt.

This is just insane. It makes the US as a touring destination hostile to all but the biggest foreign acts.

If there's a need to raise the fees, why not do it in a way it preserves or even bolsters the ability of small bands to come through? Maybe raise the fees, but provide a pathway to apply for a waiver based on some metric (album sales? prior year revenue?) to ensure it's only available to the least popular artists.

When did “the 80’s” start? 🤔

I like this answer from Reddit 👇

"I see five distinct parts:

80 - 81: Fast Times at Ridgemont High era, rock was popular, New Wave just showing up. J Geils Band, Asia, Billy Squier.

82 - 83: New Romantics era, New Wave becomes more widely accepted. Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Missing Persons.

84 - 85: Monsters of Pop era. Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cindy Lauper.

86 - 87: Stock Aitken Waterman era, where pop became a bit overproduced. Bananarama, Pet Shop Boys, Cutting Crew.

88 - 89: Hair Band era, where pop was taken over by teased hair and electric guitars. Poison, Def Leppard, Guns N Roses.

(Of course, the R&B charts had their own eras, and had very successful crossovers in every era, from Lionel Richie to Janet Jackson.)"
